What is it? – The Market Street Mile is a summer evening of running races on a down-and-back course between Bridge and Wall Streets in Corning’s Historic Gaffer District.  Registration, information, and awards activities will take place in Centerway Square, and the start/finish line will be positioned at the east end of Market Street (Wall Street).

 

When will it take place? - Market Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on July 20, 2006 to support the activities. 

 

Who is hosting the event? – The event is being hosted jointly by Corning’s Gaffer District, the Wineglass Running Club, and the Chemung Valley Montessori School.

 

What is the purpose of the event? – The event is intended to encourage healthy lifestyle activities, and to promote the 25th Wineglass Marathon and Healthworks Team Relay coming on October 1st, showcasing Corning’s Gaffer District, which is the hub of activities for the marathon, Expo, pasta party, and finish line events on September 30th and October 1st.

 

Who will participate? – Runners of all age groups and their families.  There will be several categories of running heats for all ages.  There should be broad representation, including parents who are encouraging fitness and will likely participate along with their children, teen runners, active recreational and elite runners, and veteran runners and joggers.  It is expected that families will come and go during the events and visit the stores and restaurants along Market and Bridge Streets throughout the evening.
